3:2 - Conflate

When & Where: I once again heard this word on Democracy Now. David Cay Johnston used the word during a discussion of Mitt Romney's remarks about the alleged 47% of Americans who will not vote for him because they are "dependent on the government." He was discussing the math and economics (or lack thereof) behind the comment.

Definition: As defined by dictionary.com, conflate is a verb which means to "combine (two or more texts, ideas, etc.) into one."

Level of Familiarity: Although the definition of the word is not something new to me, I had never heard this term used in any context before. While I was trying to figure out what it meant, I tried to use context clues but it could have meant a number of different things within that remark made by Johnston.

Reflective Commentary: This actually might be useful to know. It wouldn't come up in ordinary conversation, so I don't know how well I will be able to remember it. Not to mention I have never heard or read this word anywhere else before. Maybe if I see it again, especially if someone is combining different ideas or numbers together, I will remember it.
